Carol Davies Illustration
I live and work in Shrewsbury, I studied animation at Glyndwr University in North Wales. After graduating I worked for a few years in animation for film and TV, places include Warner Bros., Uli Myers Studio, Channel 4 and the BBC.
I began working more in illustration whist living in Oxfordshire, starting with my first range of greetings cards with The Really Good Card Company and children’s books for the Oxfordshire County Council’s Early Learning and Childcare department, I also worked with design agencies in the area.
Recent work includes illustrating children’s books with local authors, workshops and talks with school children and exhibiting at galleries in the area. I recently set up a limited company with my graphic designer husband and produced my own greetings card ranges, books and quirky illustrated gifts. I mainly work in pencil, pen and ink and also digital media, often combining the two.

Illustration
Recently I was asked why I don't draw mouths on my animals, only on the humans. The strange thing was I hadn't noticed that I didn't, until then. I think the trick to being an illustrator is just to love drawing, it shows in the pictures you produce.

Animation
All my animation is all hand-drawn. There’s a certain line quality needed for feature films that I learned while working at Warner Bros. TV is less so, but you need to be much quicker and there’s a lot more going on in each frame!

Other stuff
I also run workshops for schools and galleries where the children and me enjoy drawing my characters together (the adults have a go too), I even received some fan-mail after one of them. I’ve also done talks telling what it’s like to be an illustrator and showing the work I’ve done in the past.
